Healthy People TWENTYTWENTY

I'm not exactly sure what the main objectives are for Healthy people 2020, but I know that they all seem to be related to growth & aging, hospitals and Health promotion. All the newest things are:
Most of things I would say are issues, and important ones to address. Recognition of some of these issues are what americans have butted heads with in the past. Knowledge is power woo wooo.. I still feel like people might think that some things are too personal to address and be brought to light, so a few issues may be ignored for the sake of a person not having to deal with it and Americans can sweep it under the rug for another decade. Fact is, that problems never go away until they are dealt with anyway so might as well make this decade for the better and start living healthier by 2020.

Something that I found useful and super important was the topic PREPAREDNESS. Americans aren't ready for a major catastrophe such as the Tsunami that smothered Japan. We just dont know what to do if a major disease breaks out and plagues our loved ones. America would be in a state of panic if War happened on our soil. So what Im sayin is that we need to practice and prepare for the worst things such as these and when they happen then we'll be ready. This would allow for faster recovery and less collateral damage.

Eating out

Eating out has its ups and downs. I like going out to eat, especially with people that are fun to be around. What is really cool about going out to eat is that it fun and food all in one night, even though Im not supposed to connect emotions with food, I still associate a good meal with good feelings.  Another thing is that you don't have to clean up the kitchen when you get home, or do the dishes or other boring monotonous tasks of that nature.
Something that I could do without are the portion sizes, gee whiz! I can get full on a third of some dishes and make it lunch the next day. Most of my choices have a high lipid content so eating these meals close together makes me feel like a fatty haha. Oh well better choice next meal I always say. If the Fresh foods market could somehow cut down there prices by like half so I could eat and cook healthy, Then all would be right in the world. I might experiment with gardening if this keeps up.

Sucrose vs Sucrose.

I was thinking of people that use honey vs white refined sugar for some odd reason. Maybe it was an email that reminded me or something. Anyway, People seem to think that using honey as opposed to white refined sugar is more healthy because it is all natural. People who have had nutrition or Chemistry know that this claim is kind of bogus. Sugar is sugar. It is the same chemical and has the exact effect on a persons body physiologically as the other.Sucrose is Sucrose. Even if it wasn't sucrose, your body would break it down into the same pieces to convert into Glucose anyway. Its like comparing two different types of drain cleaner. They both clean your drain. DER!

Radio Active Bananas and such...

Okay so I was watching NCIS tonight and I heard something about bananas having a radioactive signature. I was wondering why this was. I thought to my self, I am never eating bananas again. Turns out that the potassium is slightly radioactive. So here was the situation on NCIS. A nuclear weapon was stolen, and the best way to smuggle it past the geiger counters was to hide it in a truckload of bananas to give a false positive, so it could be effectively hidden. Bananas are radioactive....watch out!

Olive Garden

Last Night I went to the Olive Garden for my 22nd birthday. Needless to say, I ate much more than my normal caloric intake. Salads then breadsticks, and then appetizers,  oh no! I was already almost all the way full by the time my entree came out. I ate half of it anyway, and saved the other half for today's lunch and I must say, that particular dish tastes much better when food is not coming out of your ears.

Some words about Functional Foods.

How is food functional? I thought eating food and it giving me energy was food's function. Well reading through my handy nutrition textbook, I read that a food is functional when it "gives a health benefit beyond basic nutrition." So eating carrots for their benefit to eye health would be a nice example. I sometimes eat other things for their health benefit, because the Lord knows I can get my calories from something much tastier. Things in plants that are like this are called phytochemicals or plant chemicals, which may have health benefits, but humans don't need them to live.
Have you ever looked at the ingredient list on some of the foods that you eat? Do some of the ingredients bother you because you dont know what it is or even how to say it? Some of these things are called direct additives and are not necessarily good for you. The only specifications that the FDA requires is that  doesnt harm humans and that it performs it intended purpose. These additives are not neccessary for human health, but do make foods taste better, last longer, ship easier, and what ever else may be.

All of this stuff seems pretty speculatory.  I believe that the best way to stay healthy is to eat a balanced meal that meets your own nutritional needs and exercise everyday. Everything else is a waste of time.

Pineapples Suck!!!

I love pineapples. They have the best flavor ever, especially in combo with coconuts. Anyway, as it turns out pineapples are not that nutrient dense at all. They give you 50 calories for 4oz. ( which is like a couple of slices.) The only notable nutrient is vitamin C, but still only at 50% d.v. which is pathetic compared to many other fruits. So 50 kcal/2000 kcal which is 2.5 percent of our daily value for caloric intake means that it is nutrient dense for vitamin C. All of the other important things in pineapples are less than 2.5% d.v.
  • 1 g of protein
  • 10 g of sugar
  • Total Carbohydrate value 13g, around 4% d.v.
As far as being a health food, pineapples suck. Eat these if you want to be hungry in 30 min. haha
